IT Offers Intermediate Word, Excel Training

IT is pleased offer day-long intermediate courses on Microsoft Word and Excel 2003. Each course is conducted in an on-campus computer lab and meets from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Word course will meet between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28. Topics to be covered include:

  • Working with Graphics
  • Using Advanced Formatting Options
  • Working with Headers and Footers
  • Working with Columns
  • Using Styles
  • Creating Tables
  • Formatting Tables
  • Using Basic Collaboration Features
  • Protecting Data
  • Using Charts, Diagrams and Organization Charts

The Excel course will meet between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. Topics to be covered include:

  • Working with Multiple Worksheets
  • Adjusting the Screen Display
  • Working with Advanced Functions
  • Using Advanced Formatting Features
  • Using Advanced Print Options
  • Filtering Data and Using Comments
  • Naming Worksheet Ranges and Formulas
  • Working with Charts
  • Protecting Data
  • Using Basic Integration and Web Features

Groupwise Training Course Offered

The Office of Information Technology is pleased to offer an introductory Groupwise course. The course will meet between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 in room 4 of the Gault Family Learning Center. This course will be especially valuable to new employees and to employees who have recently switched to Groupwise. The following topics will be covered:

  • How to navigate the Groupwise environment
  • Setting up the home view
  • Sending and receiving mail
  • Forwarding mail, forwarding mail as an attachment, replying to mail
  • Attaching files
  • Deleting and restoring messages
  • Common Groupwise icons
  • Retracting Groupwise messages
  • Setting mail properties
  • Creating groups in the address book
  • Using the calendar
  • Using the busy search feature to schedule appointments
  • Using Phone messages, reminder notes and tasks
  • Adding reoccurring appointments to the calendar

IT expects to offer sessions covering more advanced Groupwise topics in April and May of this year.

IT Launches Documentation Effort

In an effort to better inform members of the campus community about the various information technology resources available to them, the Office of Information Technology has launched an effort to enhance the documentation of these resources and to improve its organization and accessibility.  New documentation is being created in the College wiki and links to it can be found under the “Computing Resources” tab of the IT website. Currently, the wiki contains information about audio and video production resources, copying and printing services, classroom technology, IT help desks and networking services (including wireless).  The documentation initiative will continue throughout the Spring 2008 semester and into the summer, and many new documents will be created. The initiative is being guided by User Services Intern Catherine Grandgeorge.



Four NITLE Workshops Scheduled

Introductory Moodle Session Slated for 01/17

Instructional Technology will host an introductory Moodle session at 4:00 on Thursday, January 17, in Taylor 205. Moodle is the College’s course management system.  This session will be aimed at those new to Moodle and those seeking a refresher. An intermediate session is planned for the week of January 28. Users wishing to explore more advanced features should contact Jon Breitenbucher.



Colleague Purchasing, Approval and Budget Help Available

Faculty Invited to Instructional Technology Open House 09/03

Faculty are invited to an open house on Monday, September 3. The event will get underway at 4:00 and will take place in Taylor 205. The open house will allow faculty to meet the Instructional Technology staff, explore available equipment and services, learn about changes and developments that took place over the summer, and discuss potential projects. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there!
